What is the NSW Home Energy Saver program?
It is a NSW Government program designed to help eligible households purchase approved energy-saving upgrades that may lower bills, improve comfort and reduce emissions.
Who can apply for the zero-interest loan?
Eligible property owners must be Australian citizens or permanent residents and have a combined annual taxable household income of up to $210,000. Finance providers assess applications.
Who may qualify for the discount?
Eligible homeowners or tenants named on the lease may qualify if combined annual household income is up to $80,000, or if the household holds an eligible concession card.
Can I receive both the discount and the loan?
Yes, if eligible for both. The discount can reduce the upfront price and the loan may cover the remaining eligible amount.
Do I need to contribute any money myself?
For the discount, the program requires a minimum one-off customer contribution of at least $200 toward the total upgrade cost.
Can renters use the program?
Eligible renters can apply for the discount when applications open, but landlord approval is required. Strata approval may also be needed.
Can landlords apply?
Eligible landlords may apply for a Home Energy Saver loan. Their tenant may separately qualify for a discount, subject to program rules.
Can strata properties participate?
Yes, subject to eligibility and exclusions. Approval from the strata or owners corporation may be required.
Can I choose more than one upgrade?
Yes. Multiple eligible upgrades may be included, but the maximum discount remains $4,000 once per eligible household.
Can PowerIdeas.au help me assess which upgrade is suitable?
Yes. PowerIdeas.au can review your bill, usage pattern, solar status, evening load, EV charging needs and backup requirements before discussing suitable options. Final eligibility and finance approval remain with the official providers.
